Biodata Leonardo da Vinci

Renaissance Man
Leonardo da Vinci
~Born on April 15, 1452.
~In Vinci, Italy.
~His mother married someone else.
~He growing up in his father's Vinci home.
~also exposed to Vinci's longstanding painting tradition.
~when he about 15 his father apprenticed him to the renowed
workshop of Andrea del Verrochio in Florence.
~He demonstrated his colossal talent.
~His genius seeped when 1470 to 1475.
~He 1st big break was to paint an angle in Verrochio's
"Baptism of Christ"

~He was so much better than his master.
~He stayed in workshop until 1477.
~When 1477 he set up a shingle for himself.
~He entered the service of the Duke of Milan 1482 abandoning
his 1st commission,"The Adoration of the Magi".

~From 1485-1490 He produced a studies on loads of subjects.
~He also produced his 1st anatomical studies.
~His Milan workshop was a veritable hire of activity.
~He was so often compelled by new subjects.
~He usually failed to finish what he started.
~"stick-to-it-ness" resulted in his completing only about 6
works in these 17years.
~include "The Last Supper" and "The Virgin on the Rock".

~He left dozens of paintings and project unrealized.
~Between 1490-1495 he developed his habit of recording
his studies.
~Duke Ludovico Sforza's fall the power in 1499
Leonardo was left to search for a new patron.
 ~He traveled for a year with Borgia's army and evenmet Niccolo Machiavelli.
~He also designed a bridge to span the "golden horn" in Constantinople.

~He received a commission, with the help of Machiavelli, to paint the
"Battle of Anghiari".

~About 1503,Leonardo reportedly began work on the "Mona Lisa".

~July 9,1504, he received notice of the death of his 
father, Ser Piero.
~From 1513-1516, he worked in Rome.
~When 1516, he was offered the title of Premier Painter
and Engineer and Architect of King by Francis I in France.
~He produced studies for Virgin Mary from "The Virgin
and Child with St. Anne"

~Leonardo died on May 2, 1519 in Cloux, France.
